Ed you are right. I think there will be more acceptance of cryptos as the world continues to develop.
I am thinking of holding bitcoin and ethereum as I see them as two of the most popular coins. I believe their values will increase greatly once again just like last year.
{Ed033's Note - Yes, Bitcoin and Ethereum seems a sound strategy.
If people are into trading though, although it is a big gamble, it's likely that a number of altcoins / tokens will outperform Bitcoin and Ethereum, but it's a case of being in the right altcoin /token and getting out at the right time also.

Ed 001, like Ed 33 righly said, an alternative to mining is to buy and then resell at a higher price in future if the value of the coin appreciates.
There are exchanges that offer free software wallets. All you need do is register with them.
One Exchange that is quite reliable is Remitano but they do not support all coins. They only support bitcoin, bitcoin cash, ethereum, ripple, litecoin and USDT.
